What Is an Invisible Character?
An invisible character (also called blank character, empty character, or whitespace character) is a Unicode character that takes up space but displays nothing visible. These special characters are essential tools for formatting text on platforms that don't support traditional spacing.
Unlike regular spaces, invisible characters are often preserved by social media platforms that normally strip extra whitespace. This makes them invaluable for creating clean, well-formatted bios and posts.
The most commonly used invisible character is the "Hangul Filler" (ㅤ) which works reliably across Instagram, TikTok, Discord, WhatsApp, Twitter, and most other platforms.
Common Uses for Invisible Characters
- Instagram Bio Spacing: Create line breaks and spacing that Instagram normally removes.
- Blank Messages: Send "empty" messages on WhatsApp, Discord, or other messaging apps.
- Username Tricks: Create usernames that appear blank or have unusual spacing.
- Text Centering: Add invisible characters to center-align text in bios.
- Clean Formatting: Separate sections of your bio without visible dividers.
- Gaming: Create blank or "invisible" names in games that allow special characters.
How to Use Invisible Characters
Step 1: Click the "Copy Invisible Character" button above or any character box below.
Step 2: The invisible character is now in your clipboard.
Step 3: Paste it wherever you need blank space—Instagram bio, Discord message, WhatsApp, etc.
Pro Tip: Copy multiple invisible characters to create larger gaps. Some platforms may have limits, so test to find the right amount.
Types of Invisible Characters
There are several types of invisible Unicode characters, each with slightly different properties:
- Hangul Filler (ㅤ): The most reliable option, works on most platforms.
- Braille Blank (⠀): A blank braille character, widely compatible.
- Zero-Width Space: Takes up no visual space but is detectable by systems.
- Hair Space: Very thin space, almost invisible.
- Em Space: Wide invisible space, equal to the font size.
Platform Compatibility
Most invisible characters work on Instagram, TikTok, Twitter/X, Discord, WhatsApp, Telegram, and Facebook. However, some platforms may filter certain characters, so we recommend the Hangul Filler as the most universally accepted option.
